Institute of Indian Studies, Humanities Korea Plus Project Team (HK+) at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) will host a special lecture by Professor Kang, Sung Yong from Center for South Asian Studies at Seoul National University on May 31st  (Mon.). The title of the lecture is “India’s Vaccine Diplomacy to Counter China”.

China’s emerging role poses a threat to India, while India has intended to maintain its traditional hegemonic status within the area. Against this backdrop, India shows off its potential and reconfirms its position by giving vaccine to surrounding nations. In parallel with this, India is out for showing cooperative effort to global US-led economy. This long-term Dovish/Hawkish policy is practical and restrained. This lecture will cover India’s diplomacy with vaccine particularly in the China-India-US triangle.

Professor Kang, Sung Yong graduated from Seoul National University and earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in Indian Studies at University of Hamburg. He is a renowned scholar studying Sanskrit and bibliography and also has had great interests in India’s contemporary politics since 2019. This lecture is based on his recently published article in Asia Brief 1(5) and offers opportune information on current Covid-19 situation in India.

Anyone interested in India’s foreign policy, China-India-US triangle, and current Covid-19 situation in India is welcome to attend.
