MOU signed between Institute of India Studies Regional Humanities Center (Gandhi Ashram) and Dongdaemun-gu Office
Institute for Indian Studies Regional Humanities Center (Gandhi Ashram) signed MoU with Dongdaemun-gu Office.
Institute of Indian Studies (Director: Professor Chan Wahn Kim at Graduate School of International and Area Studies) Regional Humanities Center (Gandhi Ashram) of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (President: In Chul Kim) has signed MoU with Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor: Yoo Deok-yeol), and will hold Indian Humanities lectures at Dongdaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Center. Dongdaemun-gu has opened its Lifelong Learning Center at Donguibogam Tower in Jegi-dong last April, and promoting the creation of lifelong learning city. HUFS Institute of Indian Studies came to contribute in the Lifelong Learning City plan by introducing India and South Asia culture and humanities to Dongdaemun-gu residents through this MoU.
For a start, there will be lectures on “Indian Wisdom: Self and Happiness” and “Indian Literature and Humans” from September 19th, 2019. During the lecture on “Indian Wisdom: Self and Happiness” by Professor Jo Junho of HUFS, the students will learn about Indian culture and thoughts, and experience India’s unique philosophical system where one can find self and happiness through meditation. “Indian Literature and Humans” is a lecture in which India’s well-known classic literature such as Mahabharata and Ramayana are explained in enjoyable way in relation to Korean context. The lecture will be done in rotation by Professor Lee Dongwon (lecturer in HUFS) who majored in Indian Literature at HUFS, and Professor Ryu Hyeonjeong (lecturer in SNU) who majored in Sanskrit Literature at Dongguk Univesrity.
