Since its establishment in 1995, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) has been conducting comprehensive and systematic research on South Asia including India. The competition aims to enhance interest to further promote academic development and discover creative and innovative students who can make contributions in the field of India and South Asian Studies. All graduate and undergraduate students are invited for participation.

 

1. Eligibility

-Undergraduate and Graduate (Masters, Ph.D.)

-Type of participation: Individual research or joint research (team of 3 or less)

-All joint applicants must be eligible for entry

 

2. Thesis topic

 - Choose one of the followings:

 - Great Transition in India

 - Free topic related to India and South Asia

 

3. Competition Schedule

-Application period: From Wednesday, April 1st 2020 to Friday, May 15th 2020

-Announcement of winners: Early June, 2020

 

4. Awards

-Grand Award (1): certificate with 3,000,000 won

-Excellence Award (2): certificate with 1,000,000 won

-Commendation Award (3): certificate with 500,000 won

Award details may change depending on the quality

The prize money is paid after deducting the tax bills

 

5. Submission documents

-Application form: It must be signed and scanned for submission

-Certificate of enrollment/leave

-Thesis: written in ‘Hangul’ document, not exceeding 20 pages (A4, including abstract, main body, and references)

 

6. Submission and inquiry

7. Notice

 - One team, one paper entry

 - Co-applicants are required to display a representative on the application form. Prize money is paid to the representative.

 - Co-applicants must submit application forms, and either certificate of enrollment or certificate of absence.

 - Thesis should be submitted within the submission period, and it is the responsibility of the applicant if the submission is not on time. (Please confirm receipt of e-mail in advance, in case of network failure)

 - If the paper is already published in other publications or submitted to other institutions, it is impossible to apply again.

 - Theses should not violate plagiarism and copyright, and citation sources should be mentioned properly. (If there is a problem in the research ethics after the thesis award, the award may be cancelled.)

 - The submitted thesis is not returned, and the copyrights for awarded articles would belong to the Institute for Indian Studies.

 - Awarded papers are reviewed and published in “Journal of South Asian Studies.”
